There are numerous ways to have a self-care day without spending money so if you are on a budget, this list is for you!

What Is Self-Care And Why Is It So Important?

As the word describes, self-care is the act of taking care of your precious self!

There are many types of self-care:

  • Emotional Self-Care
  • Mental Self-Care
  • Physical Self-Care
  • Practical Self-Care
  • Spiritual Self-Care
  • Social Self-Care

Treating yourself is highly important because it is a form of gratification, and a very much-needed one if you are someone who lives a busy and responsibility-filled life.

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It can be caused by an increased workload without any breaks for taking care of yourself.

This is why it is highly important to take some time for yourself and enjoy it too!

6 Free Self-Care Day Ideas

1. Get some outdoor time.

One of the easiest and most beneficial things you can do for your mind and soul is to spend time outside. Winter can be pretty brutal when It comes to temperature swings etc, however, a snowy day should feel like an invitation to explore! Put in some sunscreen and let the fresh air clear your busy mind!

Bonus points: Put on your headphones and listen to your favourite music! This will transport you and make any persistent thoughts flow away!

2. Binge your favourite shows.

For me personally, me-time means relaxing and watching my favourite shows back-to-back. Throughout our busy weeks, it might be hard to find time for tv show binging and just melting on the couch.

Relax and clear your mind!

3. Hair mask, face mask, mani-pedi, bubble bath, etc.

Of course, this list needs to have some real me-time! I’m talking about hair masks, face masks, manicures, pedicures, baths, etc.

Pair this with binging your favourite show and you’ve got yourself a day of bliss.

4. Move your body.

So when I say you’re body, I don’t mean HIIT and weight lifting. (unless you’re up for it in which case, go for it!)

Do some gentle yoga, and light stretching, go for a walk, or dance it out!

There are some incredible platforms at the moment that provide hundreds of tutorials on different types of dancing and it can be so much fun and uplifting to learn a new dance!

My personal favourite is Steezy.

5. Make your favourite dessert.

Nothing says “self-care day” more than having your favourite dessert.

Have some fun in the kitchen by making it from scratch!

6. Go thrift shopping.

Ok so this post is supposed to be about ways to self-care without spending money but this one is pretty much in the ballpark!

Thrift stores have a pretty low price tag on most of their stuff. When I say low, I mean low! (I bought a sweater for 2$ so…yea.)

Treat yourself by buying a thrift find!
