Back in late 2019, I decided to make the switch from training at the gym, to home workouts.
I knew that I wanted to invest in creating my own little home gym, where I can unwind and be myself!
I have been upgrading my home workout equipment as my fitness goals change and I have discovered these 3 home gym essentials on a budget that you will absolutely love and use in every workout!
3 Home Gym Essentials On A Budget
1. Barbell Pad
So one of the first things I bought when I was making the transition to home workouts was a barbell.
By having a barbell you can recreate big, compound gym lifts such as squats, deadlifts, hip thrusts, etc. If you’re familiar with the dreadful bruising these lifts can leave on your body without the use of a barbell pad, you know what I am talking about.
Buying a barbell pad instead of using my pillows was the best and most affordable home gym essential on a budget investment I ever made!
Here’s my personal favourite by Peach Bands:
2. Barbell Clamps
Have you ever come across those spring collars that take forever to put on and remove from your barbell?
When I first started to put my home gym together, I had 3 pairs of those spring collars and it didn’t take too long for me to realize that they are kind of a nuisance!
Then I found the barbell clamps. It takes about a fraction of the time it took me with spring collars to lock in my weight plates.
The total cost for this incredible home gym equipment upgrade? $17.

3. Lifting Straps
Last but not least, my latest obsession, lifting straps.
If you are still performing compound lifts without lifting straps, you should absolutely give these a try!
They are truly a game-changer!
Your forearms and grip tend to give out much faster than your legs. During heavy lifts such as deadlifts, if you are not using lifting straps you might not be able to get the last few reps done because your grip will be trembling.
If there is at least one item I would absolutely recommend for people who love to lift, it’s gotta be lifting straps!
